The 5G Mindset: Building Leaders for Tomorrow

Sr. Vilma Noronha SAC is teaching at a school of the Holy Cross Fathers in Bagbasa, Tripura. They run several schools in North East India and organise NESNIM = North Eastern Students National Integration Movement for their students.

The NESNIM 2026 programme, held in Agartala, was a truly enriching and memorable experience that brought together 660 students from across the Northeast and around 100 animators. The programme focused on inspiring young people to discover their potential and grow as responsible and courageous leaders through the 5G Mindset – Grit, Growth, Goals, Greatness and Guarding.

For me, Sr. Vilma Noronha, it was a special privilege to take the main responsibility for preparing 25 students, together with two animators, for the thematic presentation and other activities. The preparation was much more than simply getting ready for a performance. It became a journey of teamwork, creativity, discipline, confidence and perseverance. Through every practice, correction and challenge, the students learned to trust one another, overcome difficulties and give their very best. The presence of young people from different parts of the Northeast made the gathering especially meaningful. Their enthusiasm, talents, creativity and unity created an atmosphere of joy and learning. NESNIM reminded us that true leadership begins with courage, responsibility, service and the willingness to grow.

One of the most memorable moments was receiving the Second Prize for our thematic presentation. This achievement brought immense joy and gratitude. More than a prize, it was a beautiful testimony to the hard work, dedication, teamwork and perseverance of the students, animators and everyone who supported us. Looking back, I realise that the greatest reward was not the prize itself, but witnessing the transformation of the students. They became more confident, united, responsible and courageous. NESNIM 2026 taught us that when young people are trusted, encouraged and guided with love, they can achieve far more than they imagine.

NESNIM 2026 was not merely a programme or competition; it was a journey of formation, friendship, leadership and hope. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to accompany these young people and to be part of such a meaningful experience. The Second Prize will remain a cherished memory, but the values of the 5G Mindset will continue to inspire us in the journey ahead: “The real victory was not only standing second on the stage, but standing together as one team, growing through every challenge and giving our very best.”
