Rooted in Christ and Sent for the Mission

An International Journey of Formation, Intercultural Communion and Apostolic Renewal in Tanzania

What does it mean to remain rooted in Christ while embracing change and responding to the needs of a changing world? For the Pallottine Missionary Sisters, this question was at the heart of an inspiring international journey of formation, communion and renewed missionary commitment in Arusha, Tanzania.

From 9 September to 9 October 2026, Sisters from seven countries gathered at the Queen of Peace Province in Lakitatu, Arusha, under the theme “Rooted in Christ and Sent for the Mission.” Animated by Sr. Josephina D’Souza, SAC, Superior General, and Sr. M. Claire Mukeshimana, General Formation Coordinator, the programme offered a meaningful opportunity to deepen their relationship with Christ, rediscover the missionary richness of the charism of St. Vincent Pallotti and strengthen their readiness to serve in an ever-changing world.

Bringing together diverse cultures, experiences and apostolic perspectives, the gathering became a space for spiritual renewal, intercultural encounter and shared learning. It reminded the Sisters that authentic mission begins with Christ, flourishes through communion and finds expression in courageous, creative and compassionate service.

Through reflections on consecrated life, spiritual discernment, synodality, leadership, community life and evangelisation, the Sisters were encouraged to renew their missionary commitment. Visits to Kifaru Parish and Mayala provided meaningful encounters with local communities, including Maasai families, highlighting the importance of pastoral accompaniment, education, human dignity and solidarity. A visit to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area also drew attention to the responsibility of caring for our common home.

The international gathering celebrated unity in diversity through cultural presentations, shared experiences and community life. The Sisters discovered anew that different cultures and experiences can enrich communion and strengthen their shared mission. The programme concluded with an evaluation, a tree-planting ceremony at the Provincial House, a Eucharistic celebration and a missioning ceremony. The tree symbolised the journey of formation: firmly rooted in Christ, nourished by faith and growing through continuous commitment to the mission.

At the conclusion, the participants expressed heartfelt gratitude to the General Government for this opportunity for spiritual and apostolic renewal. Sent forth to their respective missions, they were encouraged to begin afresh, embrace change without fear and trust in God’s guidance. They recognised that newness in life always comes at a cost, requiring courage, perseverance and openness to new possibilities.

Strengthened by the Pallottine charism and united in their vocation, the Sisters return to their communities with renewed hope and commitment, ready to make Christ’s love visible through service, communion and charity.
