Nishkalanka Seva Home joyfully celebrated Grandparents’ and Elders’ Day on 26 July 2026, with the theme announced by the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV: “I Will Never Forget You.” The theme beautifully highlighted God’s unfailing love, reminding everyone that His care and faithfulness remain constant even amidst the physical and emotional challenges of old age. The celebration began with the Holy Eucharist, celebrated by Fr. John Prakash Pereira, SAC. In his homily, he reflected on the beauty and dignity of old age, drawing inspiration from the Scripture. The senior residents offered heartfelt prayers of thanksgiving for the gift of life and prayed for the grace and strength to continue living with faith, hope, and dignity.

Following the Eucharistic celebration, the programme continued in the Ground Floor Dining Hall with the cutting of the Grandparents’ Day cake and the singing of a festive song. Representing all the senior citizens, Sr. Dr. Eugine Nirmala, the Administrator, together with Mrs. Maria Rasquina, the oldest resident of the Home at 99 years of age, cut the cake as a symbol of gratitude, unity, and the dignity of every elderly person. A vibrant cultural programme added colour and joy to the celebration. It featured a prayer dance, a welcome song, dances by the senior residents and the sisters, and a meaningful skit. The seniors beautifully portrayed Saints Joachim and Ann with the Child Mary, sang a devotional song in their honour, and sought their loving intercession for the Home and for people throughout the world.

Delicious meals were served throughout the day, creating a warm atmosphere of fellowship and celebration. Under the dedicated guidance of Sr. Dr. Eugine Nirmala, Administrator, and Sr. Antonieta Rodrigues, the event coordinator, the sisters and domestic helpers worked together with great dedication to make the occasion truly memorable. The celebration concluded with hearts filled with gratitude as everyone honoured the invaluable presence, wisdom, experience, and blessings of the elderly members of the Home. The Home was also privileged to welcome Fr. Andrew Roshan Alva, SAC, Principal of St. Vincent Pallotti School, Rasayani, accompanied by members of the faculty and students. They visited the Home to extend their warm wishes and express their love and appreciation for the senior residents. The students shared a touching message: “Grandparents make the world a little softer, a little kinder, and a lot more loving.” They also reflected that, in a rapidly changing world, grandparents serve as a precious bridge between the past and the future, preserving traditions, sharing wisdom, and passing on cherished memories that shape future generations.
