On 23 January 2025, the three General Councils of both Sisters‘ Congregations and of the Pallottine Society came together in our Generalate for their annual common meeting. Our Superior General Sr. Josephina D’Souza had invited for the meeting and could welcome Sr. Ivete Garlet, CSAC, Superior General and her Councillors along with Rector General Fr. Zenon Hanas and his administration team. The setting offered the possibility to meet in an atmosphere of familiarity.
For the first part of the meeting, Ms. Gabriella Acerbi, Vice-President of the General Coordination Council of the Union of Catholic Apostolate, joined us to explain the background for the upcoming General Assemblies of the UAC. A General Decree, published by the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life in 2021, required some changes on the General Statutes of the UAC. First, the suggestions worked out in a lengthy process shall now be decided during the extraordinary assembly so that they can be approved by the Dicastery. After that another ordinary assembly will need to make some updates according to the updated statutes.
Besides that, there was information and sharing related to different groups and commissions working together regularly – for the jubilee year, in formation, in mission promotion or in youth ministries. The Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate will celebrate their General Chapter in July / August this year, and Superior General Sr. Ivete Garlet, CSAC will then leave this office after 24 years of service in this office and many years of dedicated commitment to the Pallottine Family.
To conclude the meeting, holy Mass was concelebrated in the chapel of the Generalate, and Vice-General Fr. Derry Murphy, SAC preached the homily. This was followed by a joyful meal together with the Sisters in our guest house, the Procura Generale.
